There's a gap between what a floor plan shows and what a home feels like to live in.

Most people can't see it. Most architects don't explain it. And most clients don't know to ask.

Once construction begins, many of the most important decisions become expensive to reverse.

"The way a house feels is designed long before it is built."

    HOW IT WORKS

    Read the Space

Learn to move through a plan the way you'd move through a home.

Understand flow, transition, and where a design breaks down before it ever goes to permit.

    feel the light

    Natural light isn't decoration — it's architecture.

Learn to trace it, anticipate it, and use it as a filter for evaluating any plan.

    live the logic

A great floor plan solves for how you actually live.

Test a plan against your real daily patterns, not just your wishlist.

    THE GUIDE

    Before You Build:

    An in-depth plan review guide

The Before You Build guide gives you a framework for evaluating floor plans the way a trained spatial thinker would — before a single wall goes up.

    Inside:

    — The most common spatial mistakes homeowners approve without realizing it

    — How to trace movement through a plan and identify where daily life will break down

    — How furniture, circulation, and room relationships affect the way a home functions

    — What to look for when evaluating natural light and what floor plans never show you

    — How to read scale on paper versus how a room actually feels to stand in

    — How sight lines influence openness, privacy, and the experience of moving through a home

    — What your plans reveal about storage, organization, and everyday convenience

    — How to evaluate the connection between indoor and outdoor living spaces

    — The questions to ask your architect before you sign off on anything

    — How to spot the decisions that are inexpensive to fix now and expensive to fix later

    — How to identify future regrets before construction begins

    Why Spatial Clarity Exists

Most homeowners hire an architect and then spend the next several months nodding at plans they don't fully understand. They approve layouts based on square footage and gut instinct. They sign off on designs that feel fine — until construction starts and something doesn't sit right.

A house is one of the few decisions people live inside every day. And most of the spatial decisions that shape that experience are made on paper, quickly, without a framework for perceiving them.

I'm Jason McKissick — with decades of experience across residential construction and design. Fully custom homes, production builds, ADUs, remodels. I've worked across the full spectrum, from high-end custom to thoughtfully designed attainable homes.

The problem isn’t your ability to understand a floor plan. It’s knowing what to look for. Spatial Clarity gives you that lens.
